TSF Travel Awards – STS Annual Meeting

TSF Travel Awards –Scholarships Available to Surgeons 

Cardiothoracic surgeons who treat underserved* patients and who demonstrate a financial need are eligible for $1,000 travel awards to attend the STS 54th Annual Meeting, January 27-31, 2018, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

Funding: Each $1,000 travel award from The Thoracic Surgery Foundation will help defray the costs associated with attending the conference. Award funding can be picked up onsite.

About the STS 54th Annual Meeting: The premier educational event in cardiothoracic surgery offers more translational science and hands-on education than any other meeting in the specialty. Sessions will address all aspects of adult cardiac, general thoracic, and congenital heart surgery, as well as critical care, how infectious heart disease is treated surgically in different countries, research and quality improvement, and much more. How to Apply: Complete the online application, and submit a CV or resume by the application deadline. The document seeks information about the applicant’s current employment setting, his/her treatment of underserved* patients, and financial need for the award.

Eligibility:

  • Cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians who treat underserved heart valve patients, and;
  • Cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians who demonstrate a financial need for the travel award.

Application Open Date: TSF will begin accepting applications on November 15, 2017 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Application Deadline: Award applications will be accepted through December 15, 2017 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Award Notification: Award recipients will be notified by January 1, 2018.

  • Cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians who demonstrate a financial need for the travel award.

Review Process

TSF will review and score all applications based on the specific award criteria, with an emphasis on the impact the award may have on treating the underserved population in the applicant’s home institution.

 

 

*Underserved patients are those who have a health disparity as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and lack awareness of, or access to, medically appropriate health care.
