COVID-19 Message from TSF President Joseph E. Bavaria, MD

The world is experiencing an unprecedented event, the COVID-19 virus pandemic. As you know, hospitals and health care facilities, and heath care professionals like us are on the frontlines, stepping up and providing the best care possible for our patients with every single tool accessible to us.

We are The Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF), the charitable arm of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, which is the largest cardiothoracic surgery association in the world. We are your Foundation, your community, and—together—we will get through this challenging time.

I want to thank you all for your support: every single donor, every corporation, every family foundation, every partner association, and especially our award recipients who are currently conducting innovative cardiothoracic surgery research.  During this time, the work of TSF has not halted; we persevere. TSF continues to be a pivotal force for growth and vitality in cardiothoracic surgery, especially for research and academic career development, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the care of patients with cardiothoracic diseases.

Surely you have all seen many of the important cautionary checklists and best practices to stay safe so that we can put the COVID-19 virus behind us. Please continue to follow CDC Guidelines.

On behalf of myself and all of us associated with TSF, we thank you for your support; our best wishes are with you – for your safety and well-being.

Joseph E. Bavaria, MD
